We had an awesome day at the pool in Eldorado Canyon today! We sang “Titanic” on the bus, and then began our day at Mesa Trailhead, where we sang “The Hippo Song” and “Let Me See Your Funky Chicken.” Then, we played an awesome game of Zebratonicus tag–ask your camper how it’s played! Each group then discussed how to be safe at the pool before heading off to the Eldorado pool at 10 .a.m.!
Once at the pool, everyone changed into their swimsuits, got a snack, put on some sunscreen, and headed up to the pool! After doing their swim screens, the campers had a great time swimming until lunch. They went off the diving board, played in the “hot tub,” and went down the slide! After lunch, the campers drank lots of water before heading up to the pool for some more swimming and craft time. Lots of campers had a great time doing lanyards, making yarn art, and creating some friendship bracelets! Other campers had a fun time in the pool, playing with the noodles.
At the end of the day, we changed back into our clothes and had some delicious watermelon for snack. Everyone was pretty tired from a great day in the pool! We finished up with some quieter afternoon songs, including ” I love the Mountains” and our standard, “On Top of Spaghetti.”
Tomorrow, we’re heading to Walden Ponds to fish and then back to Base Camp to climb on the MDC/AO rock wall! See you there!

What a fun day at the pool! Â We began at the Mesa Trailhead to sing and dance to some of our favorite tunes including Swimming Song, Around the World, and Tarzan. Â Did you know Tarzan has a tan from being hit by a frying pan? Â Yep.
Amoeba tag helped us wake up and work as a team which lead into cabin group conversation about what works and what does not work when working together. Â After covering the rules of the pool we loaded the bus and made our way to the pool where we had a big sunscreen party! Â The pool was refreshing as the sun was toasty. Â We slid down the slide, played with noodles, jumped off the diving board, and mingled with new friends. Â After lunch there were many friendship bracelets and lanyards to be made so the majority of campers had multiple colors of strings hanging off their hands for most of the afternoon. Â We enjoyed a scrumptious snack of grapes and yoghurt covered pretzels and sang our afternoon songs on the bus including On Top of Spaghetti and I Love the Mountains because we here at MDC LOVE THE MOUNTAINS! …doom deeyadah doom deeyadah…

We enjoyed the cool cloud cover this morning as we sang morning songs at South Mesa Trailhead. Â The oh so fun Hippo Song serenaded the world around us followed by the classic Swimming Song. Â Our morning game of Commonalities brought campers together as they found others who shared the same favorite ice cream flavor, book, movie, camp activity, etc. Â Â After reviewing pool rules in order to set up a fun and safe day we loaded the bus and headed to the pool where we enjoyed the cloud cover until after lunch. Â The following sums it all up: big red slide, oodles of noodles, a bouncy diving board, marco polo, lanyards, friendship bracelets, popsicle stick creations, and making new friends! The sun hid behind the clouds until after lunch. Â We enjoyed juicy watermelon for afternoon snack. Â After singing about sneezing and meatballs we loaded the bus with gear and campers and made our trek back while playing Sleeping Bunnies on the bus. Â What a wet, refreshing, fun-filled day!

We had an awesome pool day at Junior today! We began our day with the “Fishing Song” and the “Swimming Song,” and then played a rousing round of duck-duck-goose, Mountain Day Camp-style. Ask your camper how it’s played! Then, we headed back to Base Camp for some teambuilding time–we worked with the webbing, and also made a cabin group sign. Then, we got packed up, put on some sunscreen, and headed out towards Spruce Pool!
We stopped along the way to eat lunch and discuss pool rules. After eating, we trekked all the way to the pool without stopping! We put all of our stuff on a table, sunscreened some more, and then headed into the pool for an hour and a half! The campers had a ton of fun being sharks, pool monsters, and playing with our Junior Leaders and Counselors. We took a number of water breaks, and hopped out of the pool only when we were exhausted from playing so hard.
After changing into dry clothes, we drained our water bottles and headed back to Base Camp, where we had some quiet time. We were lucky to have Inclusion Director Leah come read us a story! Then, we headed outside for some watermelon (yum!) for snack. It was so delicious, we all at multiple pieces! After snack, we did a fun weather activity. We made real rainbows (using water, a bendy mirror, and a white sheet of paper) and also real cumulus clouds (using water and cotton balls). The campers were excited to see how weather works!
We finished off the day with our rose and thorn–each camper said their favorite thing and least favorite thing about the day–and with some quieter, more relaxing songs. We sang “Little Canoe” and, to finish off the day, “On Top of Spaghetti.” Tomorrow, we’re going to finish off the week with a fun hike and by playing with the MDC parachute! See you tomorrow!

As we all know, today was the last day that Mountain Day Camp will all be at the Eldorado Pool together this summer. It is fun knowing that we all have great memories there, but sad knowing that camp is coming to a close. We started our day how we usually do on pool days, at Mesa Trailhead, since the pool doesn’t open until 10. We sang songs, played a fun game of “the sun shines on…”, and heard about what pool day entails by our counselors.
We hopped on the bus to head for the pool, and once we got off we felt the heat and we were all hyped up to jump in and cool off. We swam and swam until it was lunch time. We rejuvenated our bodies and then we headed back to the pool with some crafts for those who were too tired to swim. Ask your camper how many times she or he went down the awesome slide!
We were sad when it came time to pack up, but we had a nice snack of juicy watermelon, and sang “On Top of Spaghetti” before loading up the bus. When we all got to our drop off places, we were beat with rosy cheeks from the sun beating on us all day.
We will miss Eldo Pool, but we will be there again next year! We look forward seeing everyone tomorrow… be ready for some awesome, new crafts!!!

The Juniors had an awesome day at the Spruce Pool! We started off the day with some fun, water-oriented songs…we sang “Swimming, swimming, in the swimming pool” and the world-famous “Fishing” song–how fast can you sing this song? Then, we played a great round of Ship-Island–some of the counselors even joined in the fun! After drinking some water to stay hydrated, we headed inside for some cabin group time.
Each group took some time to talk about the pool and also drew and then colored in their favorite dinosaurs. It’s amazing how many of the campers really like T-Rexes! Then, we prepped for the pool–everyone got all sunscreened, filled up their water bottles, and got ready to head out. Director Betsy was nice enough to drive our bags to the pool, so we got to hike to the pool carrying only our water bottles!
Once at Spruce Pool, we ate lunch, sunscreened some more, and then dove into the water for some fun free play in the pool! All of our swimming dinosaurs had a great time–the pool is the place to be on these hot summer days. We hopped out after about an hour of swimming, changed, and headed for home. Director Betsy once again drove our bags back to camp so that we didn’t have to hike carrying anything wet, which would have been very heavy. Instead, we just carried ourselves and our water bottles!
Back at camp, we had some quiet time–we read about Annie Apatosaurus (ask your camper how Annie the Apatosaurus walks!) and also about the trickster Coyote. Then, we headed back outside for a delicious snack of frozen Go-Gurt and some free play before the end of the day. We concluded our day with rose and thorn (each camper says their rose–their favorite thing–and their thorn–their least favorite thing–for the day), and some quieter, more relaxed afternoon songs.
Tomorrow, we’re headed out to Boulder Creek for some free play, and we’ll also be making Dinosaur Hats! Get ready for an awesome last day of camp!

Today was a perfect day for going to the pool. As the kids were arriving, they were able to play with Popsicle sticks, from which many campers made “exploding fireworks.” We began the day with some themed swimming and water songs, and then an energetic game of “What Time is it Mr. Shark.” After our game we began the hike to the pool. All of the campers were really great hikers and we made it to the pool with some energy left to play. At the pool, we all had a great time splashing around and cooling off. There were some sharks. some submarines and many other exciting things at the pool. Once we had all tired ourselves out having fun, we headed back to the Living School to enjoy some well earned rest time. During our rest time, we listened to some stories read to us by Counselor Jake and Counselor Kristen. Finally we got to our surprise activity which turned out to be our first silly counselor fashion show. Each cabin group was given some costume pieces and face paint and had to make their counselor look as silly as possible, it was awesome. By the time each counselor had strutted their stuff, the votes had been cast and counselor Jake was crowned the silliest, it was time for snack and some end of the day songs. The campers were sent home tired but happy to rest up for another fun day at camp.

We were thankful for the very warm weather today–it complimented our awesome time at the pool quite nicely!
We started out the day with some of our favorite morning songs. Tommy joined us and taught one of his favorite songs “Little Spaceship in the Sky”–the campers got really into it! We then broke into our cabin groups to do some morning activities. The Rainbow Fireworks did their “Weather Reports” (a morning check-in) and then did crazy cabin pictures in their brand-new Mountain Day Camp T-shirts! The Skateboarding Wildcats did some team-building while mixing the delicious gorp we later had for snack. After a quick fire drill we loaded up on sunscreen, played a few water drinking games and headed to the pool!
Spruce pool was awesome! We did a swim screen to gauge campers’ swimming abilities and then spent the half hour or so playing in the pool and water park. We then enjoyed our lunches in the shade –it was nice to rest for a bit before reapplying sunscreen and heading back towards the water! By the time left the pool we were happy, hungry, and ready for snack and rest time. We couldn’t have asked for a better snack than the yummy gorp made by the Skateboarding Wildcats–thanks guys!
We ended the day with some inside play time with costumes (check out the pictures posted online–they are a scream!) and end of day songs. We learned a new afternoon song, “Ragtime Cowboy Joe”–a camp favorite. We ended today with Molly accompanying us on the guitar for “On Top of Spaghetti”. What a great day!
We had a very fun (and very sunny) day so be sure to drink plenty of water and rest up for all of our exciting end of session activities tomorrow!

Pool day is always an exciting day for the campers. We started the day with a great game of Tiger tag, and then came inside for songs. As today was pool day, we sang some themed songs such as “The Swimming Song,” and “Baby Shark.” Counselor Michelle then led us in the promised and highly anticipated pizza stretch. between that and going to the pool, we did some team building activities. The Golden Eagles mixed their GORP, while the other two groups did an activity with the Lycra tube. They all had to work together to sit down while leaning backwards against a circle of Lycra fabric, if one person didn’t work with the group, then we all fell. All the campers really like the Lycra tube, and wanted to stay in it even though it was time to leave for the pool.
On our hike to the pool, all the campers were real troopers and set an amazingly fast pace- they were all excited to get in the water especially given how warm it was. We got to the pool and had an all camp sunscreen party, and then got into the pool. The campers were having so much fun, that they were all reluctant to get out and have lunch, which is normally on of their favorite times of the day. After lunch, a small break, and another sunscreen party, we all got back into the pool. Our hike back was at a much calmer pace since all the campers were tired from their playtime in the pool.
Snack time was as soon as we got back, to replenish some of their energy. We ate some amazing “Super Golden GORP” mixed by the Golden Eagle Group. Then we had a long rest time with stories read by Counselor Kristen. some of the kids fell asleep almost as soon as we sat down, and stayed that way for all of rest time. Rest time was followed by camper weather reports, an activity where all the campers tell us how they are feeling in terms of different weather patterns. We had a lot of sunny campers with a few clouds because we all had fun at the pool, but it also tired us out. Since everyone was kind of tired, we sang some nice calm afternoon songs like “make new friends” and “I love the mountains” and then of course the camp classic “On Top of Spaghetti.” By then parents were arriving, finding very tired but happy children, and it was time to send the campers home to rest and prepare for another fun day at camp.
