Today we started out the day with two songs, called in the swimming pool, and fishing. We then proceed and made turtles that we hung on the kids backs. They had fun crawling around pretending to be turtles and goofing off. During this time we let kids who were not in there swim suits to go change so we could get ready to go swimming. After we got the kids ready, we started our walk to the pool. On our way to the pool we stopped and had lunch in a mini meadow. When we arrived at the pool the kids did a swim screen and started to play. A few of the kids went to the splash park. everyone had a great time at the pool.

Junior Pool Day
Thursday, July 29th, 2010Juniors begin Dinos Chomping Plants week!
Monday, June 28th, 2010Today was our first day of Dinos Chomping Plants week! It was really exciting to have so many campers–we have two full groups this week, the Green and Yellow Stegosaurouses and the Big Blue Chocolate Racecar Ripstick Dogs (Big Blue for short). We began our day with some awesome morning songs, including “Fred the Moose” and “Turtle in a Box.” After putting on some sunscreen and going over our MDC rules, we headed over to the mini-meadow for a rousing game of “Ship-Island!” (Ask your camper how to play!)
After our morning game, we headed back to base camp to decorate our water bottles–each camper got the opportunity to decorate a unique wrapper for their camp water bottle–and share them with the group. Then, we got all packed up and headed out to Shady Glade for some lunch and some games! Lunch was delicious, and afterwards we played a whole-camp game of tunnel tag, which was very exciting, especially when our Junior Leaders participated. After tunnel tag, we played some name games, and then headed back to base camp for some quiet time.
During quiet time, we read “Green Eggs and Ham” and drank lots of water–it was delicious! After quiet time, we did our group names–each group chose their name as a whole group. Ask your camper about their group name! Then, each camper got their MDC t-shirt and we took group pictures, with our silliest faces, of course.
Then, we had some delicious gorp, mixed by Director Betsy. It was yummy! After gorp (and drinking lots of water!), we headed back to the mini-meadow for free play. We finished off the day with a quiet rendition of “On Top of Spaghetti.”
Tomorrow, we’re headed to Marshal Mesa to look for fossils! See you tomorrow!
Juniors begin Fun Flowers week!
Monday, June 21st, 2010Juniors began Fun Flowers week with some amazing morning songs, including “Fred the Moose” and “Little Red Wagon.” After going over our MDC rules, we headed outside to put on some sunscreen, and then headed over to the mini-meadow to play a rousing game of “What Time Is It, Mr Fox?” Then, we headed back to base camp to decorate our water bottles–each camper’s is unique and beautiful, ask your camper what their water bottle looks like!
The two cabin groups in junior are named The Red and Blue Head Lions and Tigers, or Lions and Tigers for short, and The Pink Roses. Ask your camper about their group name! After decorating our water bottles, we headed over to Shady Glade (Canyon Park) to eat lunch and play some fun camp games. After an awesome game of tunnel tag, we played some fun name games with our friendly camp stuffed animals. Then, we headed back to base camp for some quiet time (aka story time), after which we headed outside to get our camp t-shirts and take a group picture. Everyone looked very cool in their MDC shirts!
To finish off the day, we ate some delicious gorp for snack–ask your camper what’s in gorp! It was really yummy–some campers even had seconds! Then, we headed inside to avoid the rain and to do rose and thorn. For rose and thorn, each camper says their rose, or favorite thing, about the day and their thorn, or least favorite thing, about the day. We sang the camp classic “On Top of Spaghetti” to end our day, and are looking forward to another awesome day tomorrow!
Tomorrow, we’re headed up to Eldorado Canyon State Park to eat lunch with some of our older campers–it should be exciting! See you tomorrow!
Altogether Now in Junior!
Tuesday, June 8th, 2010Today, the MDC junior campers began our day with a weather report (we each reported how we were feeling in terms of the weather), and some fun songs, including “Tarzan” and “Fred the Moose.” After singing, we played an exciting game of What Time is It, Mr. Fox, and also spent some time being fighter jets and airplanes.
After our morning activities, we got ready to go, and hopped in the MDC van for our trip up to Eldorado Canyon! It was really exciting to see the canyon, and we got to sing songs in the van all the way up to the canyon. Once at Eldorado Canyon, we got to watch the big kids climb, ate some delicious gorp, and also got to play a big matching game with the junior leaders. It was really awesome to get to partner with the junior leaders! Then, because we were cold, we hopped in the van and headed back down to Base Camp.
Once back at Base Camp, we headed to the mini-meadow for some free play, making sure to drink lots of water! Then, we decorated some sunglasses with pipe cleaners and foam–everyone looked amazing! After decorating our sunglasses, we had some snack, gorp mixed courtesy of Program Director Jen, and then finished off the day with rose and thorn (each camper said the “rose” of their day and the “thorn” of their day). We closed with a lovely rendition of “On Top of Spaghetti,” in our nicest voices. Tomorrow, we’re headed to NCAR to do their weather walk, and we might also get a chance to make some clouds! Until tomorrow!
