Pool Day in Eldo!

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

We had an awesome day at the pool in Eldorado Canyon today! We sang “Titanic” on the bus, and then began our day at Mesa Trailhead, where we sang “The Hippo Song” and “Let Me See Your Funky Chicken.” Then, we played an awesome game of Zebratonicus tag–ask your camper how it’s played! Each group then discussed how to be safe at the pool before heading off to the Eldorado pool at 10 .a.m.!

Once at the pool, everyone changed into their swimsuits, got a snack, put on some sunscreen, and headed up to the pool! After doing their swim screens, the campers had a great time swimming until lunch. They went off the diving board, played in the “hot tub,” and went down the slide! After lunch, the campers drank lots of water before heading up to the pool for some more swimming and craft time. Lots of campers had a great time doing lanyards, making yarn art, and creating some friendship bracelets! Other campers had a fun time in the pool, playing with the noodles. :)

At the end of the day, we changed back into our clothes and had some delicious watermelon for snack. Everyone was pretty tired from a great day in the pool! We finished up with some quieter afternoon songs, including ” I love the Mountains” and our standard, “On Top of Spaghetti.”

Tomorrow, we’re heading to Walden Ponds to fish and then back to Base Camp to climb on the MDC/AO rock wall! See you there!

First Pool Day of Session 5!

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

We enjoyed the cool cloud cover this morning as we sang morning songs at South Mesa Trailhead.  The oh so fun Hippo Song serenaded the world around us followed by the classic Swimming Song.  Our morning game of Commonalities brought campers together as they found others who shared the same favorite ice cream flavor, book, movie, camp activity, etc.    After reviewing pool rules in order to set up a fun and safe day we loaded the bus and headed to the pool where we enjoyed the cloud cover until after lunch.  The following sums it all up: big red slide, oodles of noodles, a bouncy diving board, marco polo, lanyards, friendship bracelets, popsicle stick creations, and making new friends! The sun hid behind the clouds until after lunch.  We enjoyed juicy watermelon for afternoon snack.  After singing about sneezing and meatballs we loaded the bus with gear and campers and made our trek back while playing Sleeping Bunnies on the bus.  What a wet, refreshing, fun-filled day!

Pool Day in Eldorado Canyon!

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

It was hot today in Eldorado Springs and most of the campers really enjoyed spending most of their day in the pool to cool off! We started off the day at the Mesa Trailhead where we sang “The Fishing Song” and “Bazooka Bubblgum” and played the game “Commonalities.” Commonalities is a whole camp game where campers make groups depending on their preferences, such as favorite camp activity and favorite type of ice cream! We then loaded the bus and headed to the pool!

After hearing the rules of the pool from the lifeguards, we headed down to the picnic tables, went to the bathrooms to change into our bathing suits and loaded TONS of sunscreen on! Then it was time to swim! Campers took swim tests to evaluate their swimming abilities and to keep them safe in the pool. Campers could then go down the slide and jump off the diving board, or just swim around with the noodles. After some lunch and some more sunscreen, campers had the option to make friendship bracelets, lanyards, or bead jewelry or go back in the pool.

We ended the day with a snack of watermelon and our traditional afternoon song of “On Top of Spaghetti.” We loaded up the bus and sang “Baby Bumblebee,” “Bumblebee Tuna,” and “Three Little Angels.” Campers seemed pretty tired by the end of the day, so be sure to get lots of rest before returning to camp tomorrow!

Pool Day at Eldorado Canyon

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Today started with some high-energy games and songs at the Mesa trailhead.  We had the great opportunity to learn more about everyone at camp while we played “Commonalities” where we ran around and joined up in groups according to our various favorite things.  After running around and using up some of that early morning energy, we split into our cabin groups to organize for and discuss what we would do at the pool.

After rallying all of the groups and boarding the bus once again, we left for the pool.  Arriving just as it was opening, we all sat on the steps and listened to the head lifeguard give us the ground rules.  Having learned the rules, we entered the pool excited to establish our area next to the river.  With each group settled in and changed, we made our way to the deck with the pool to ourselves.  It was then time for our swim screen which could not have gone smoother for each camper.  After swimming around, climbing on counselors, riding the slide and jumping off the diving board, it was time for lunch…and not a minute too soon!

Lunch was spent all together and got everyone fueled up for more high-energy afternoon.  Giving everyone time to digest and avoid the cramps we all know exist, we spent some time learning how to make lanyards…they were a hit!  Having cleaned up, we went back in the pool for some more afternoon sunlight and had a blast!  We wrapped up the day with some planning for tomorrow and the camp favorites that are afternoon songs and a fun-filled bus ride home!

Tomorrow we’ll be at Sawhill Ponds–bring bug spray!

Eldorado Pool Day!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

We had an awesome pool day at Eldorado today–it started out a bit cold, but quickly warmed up for some fun swimming and splashing! We started out the day at Mesa Trailhead, where we sang the swimming song to get us ready for the pool and warmed up our muscles with a rousing game of Ship-Island. We then had some fun learning about each other’s preferences with the game “Commonalities” before heading to the pool at 10.

Once at the pool, we set up camp, had a quick snack, and then got changed into our bathing suits for a day of fun. After a super-efficient swim screen, about half our campers stayed in the pool to play and half headed up onto the deck to catch some sun. We played in the water and the rays until lunchtime, when we all hopped out, toweled off, and chowed down. After lunch, the Tigers worked on their lanyards, while the Lizards and Blue Striped Trees made their kites for tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Junior Leaders worked on perfecting their friendship bracelets.

After taking a break and drinking lots of water–as well as re-applying sunscreen–we headed back into the water for a fun-filled afternoon. By this time, it was pretty warm, so we had lots of fun going off the diving board and, of course, sliding down El Dorado pool’s famous water-slide. Later in the afternoon, the Tigers made their kites, and the Junior Leaders got their kites all decorated for the Meadow tomorrow.

After a fun afternoon of splashing around and free play at the pool, we hopped out and had some delicious watermelon for snack–everyone got two pieces! Then, we packed up, got changed, and headed to our home picnic tables to sing some songs to round out the day. We sang the always-lovely Canoe Song, and did “I Love the Mountains” in a three-part round! It was pretty impressive. Then, we packed up the bus and headed home, tired, but full of a good day of fun.

See everyone tomorrow at Meadow Day! Remember, please wear long pants and bring a hat–it’s gonna be fun!
